The space elevator has been discussed from some time though only recent technological developments have made it viable. The research pertaining to the technologies required for construction of the space elevator is scattered through many disciplines, across journals, in people's heads and probably even stuff at the bottom of stacks of papers. Here we will start to bring in some of the most relevant but we hope to eventually bring in both past and new research here.
General Space Elevator Work
File:ActaAstropreprint.pdf: Edwards, Acta Astronautica 2000. Original paper by Edwards laying out many of the basic attributes of the current space elevator design.
File:Edwards NIAC Phase I.pdf: Edwards, NAIC Phase I Report, 2000 - Precursor to "The Space Elevator" by Edwards and Westling. This report contains much of the concept and details for the current space elevator design.
File:Edwards NIAC Phase II.pdf: Edwards, NAIC Phase II Report, 2002 - Follow-on report to the Phase I above though much of the Phase II work is reported in the book, "The Space Elevator" by Edwards and Westling. This report includes discussions on various additional items of interest.
File:Pearson1975.pdf: Paper by Jerome Pearson going through the initial critical aspects of a space elevator.
