International Space Elevator Consortium (ISEC)

This international organization is the natural extension of the current space elevator development activities. Efforts are now growing in Europe, Japan, and North America as well as Australia, parts of Asia and even locations that had no prior space activities. The mission of ISEC is to represent these various efforts and coordinate the various activities into a more productive program.

The initial directors have been selected (Alphabetical):

  • Ben Shelef
  • Pete Swan
  • Akira Tsuchida (Japan)

Treasurer: Ruth Richter

ISEC Missions:

  1. To distribute accurate knowledge of Space Elevator worldwide
  2. To remove all issues and hurdles to the construction of a space elevator for global benefit.


ISEC Goals:

  1. Short-term goals: Support current space elevator efforts
    • SE Games
    • SE conferences
      • European
      • U.S.
      • Japanese
    • Commercial developments
    • New efforts
  2. Short-term: Create a resource base on the space elevator which is the professional, well maintained&accurately updated
    • Technical information
    • Legal briefs, studies, issues, any export issues (Ex. ITAR, Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act Low in Japan.)
    • Outreach methods, supporters, material
    • Economic studies, funding sources, business case, market studies
    • Develop an overall schedule that shows the "way ahead"
  3. Short-term: Increase public awareness and support for the space elevator
    • Reduce misconceptions and increase understanding of technology
    • Distribute information on the benefits
    • Short to mid.term: Proactively approach stakeholders: laboratories, industries, space agencies, political & scientific leaders (opinion leaders)
  4. Long-term: to enable the construction of the space elevator
    • Provide available material to construction efforts
    • Provide advisory assistance and contacts for development and design
